Adjusting to Married Life

Honestly, I love being married. I get to spend every day with my best friend and I get to go to sleep with my crush. I adore Seth and it has been delightful being his wife. One thing I was surprised about, though, was how lonely and isolated I feel during the day while he's at work. I'm busy, of course, as I'm doing 2 online classes, an online Family Life Coaching Course, working from home as a TA for a few hours a week, and then twice a week going into the office for my internship with the Foundation for Family Life. Most days, I never speak during the day because there's no one to talk to—unless I call my sister or a friend, which is very enjoyable, but it's not the same.

I have loved being able to be a housewife with my spare time! When I'm not working and studying (or while I'm listening to textbooks), I'm able to clean up around the apartment, decorate, do laundry, and bake some things if I choose. I think I would love to be a housewife and a stay at home mom all the time—it's just a bit cumbersome when I also have all the other responsibilities with school. I think our apartment is coming together beautifully! We just need our storage bench, a nightstand, The Family: A Proclamation to the World, and we need to find a way to keep our curtains up. If anyone has any tips for keeping curtains up on the wall without the stick-on rod holders falling off, I'm all ears! I also need to learn how to hem lace since our lace curtains in the front room drag on the floor quite a bit.

In our time together, Seth and I are a great team. He typically makes every meal and I do some of the cleanup—he focuses on cleaning the kitchen while I do the rest of the apartment and laundry, which is definitely a fair trade in my opinion! His cooking is amazing and I love that he loves to do it. I try to keep our plants alive and make our apartment a home, and he provides by working and making our food. I get the groceries and he reminds me to take care of myself. I struggle to get up in the morning, so Seth always wakes me up with lots of kisses and breakfast ready along with my medication and a warm blanket.

I love our evenings together! It's the best time of the day when he gets home from work. We cuddle, have dinner, watch a movie or play a game or something else to connect, and it's perfect. I feel closer to him and tied to him—like we know each other better than anyone else ever will on earth—and it's wonderful. I think I expected it to be a more drastic change, for everything to be different when we got married, but it's much more subtle than that. I just feel it in my heart, like the still small voice of the Holy Ghost connecting me to the Lord. We didn't suddenly start seeing angels and we aren't perfect or magical or anything like I may have anticipated, but we are closer and it is beautiful.

My Birth Story

Birth was one of the most fascinating experiences. I remember most of it, but as my husband could tell you, I was definitely delirious at some points and I don't remember much of the conversations I had then.        It was very fast. From the time my contractions started (that I was aware of) to the time my baby was born was a span of only 6 hours! I labored for 4 hours and pushed for 2 hours. It all happened so rapidly!       3 nights before my scheduled c-section,  I felt that I needed to go to bed early — which I now recognize as a prompting from God to prepare me for a joyful, although sleepless, night. So, I went to bed around 7pm and woke up to terrible gas pains at about 9:15pm. After using the bathroom, I hoped the pain would stop and moved to go back to bed when I got hit with another bout of pains. I told my husband I was going to go sit in the living room since sleep was unlikely with the aching I was having. The pains were primarily in...

Almost A Mom

I was almost a mom, kind of. I think Seth and I have a baby in heaven now, at least. Last week, I should have gotten my period and took a test which resulted in a positive. The next day was negative. I decided to take a break for a few days, but on Saturday the 25th, I felt in my heart and soul that I was pregnant. Symptoms from me and my husband made me believe it, but more than that it was like a spiritual knowledge that my baby was with me at the time. On the 26th, we got our solid positive test and we were so excited, so we told all of our family members immediately, because I have never understood waiting to tell others.      My birthday was on Monday and it was perfect so we could tell all my family members that were in town. It was wonderful. Because I had suspected from the Wednesday before that I may be pregnant, I purchased a pregnancy journal and some small announcement gifts for them that I figured I could save for the future if I wasn't pregnant. But be...

Things to Add to Your Wedding Registry (That You'll Actually Use)

Now that I have been married for about a year and a half, I have a good idea on what items from our registry were actually helpful and what I wish I had added! So here's a quick list of my favorite 10 items to have as a married couple. I'll include Amazon links that I've gotten from the affiliate program (meaning I would receive a commission if you purchase from these links) so you can get to them easily and see what I've really enjoyed! 1.  A Kitchen Aid Mixe r      I have  loved  having my KitchenAid. They are SO helpful in getting meals prepped, baking, and multitasking with limited counter space. They are a great addition to your kitchen together. 2. Hair Clippers      Learning how to cut your husband's hair is a great way to save money, so hair clippers are a handy investment. Either I or my sister use our hair clippers to cut my husband's hair now, and it's also helpful for any of our friends and family in the area who need a haircut be...
